To improve air quality and public health, the Brussels-Capital Region has created a “low emission zone” (LEZ) in which traffic is prohibited to the most polluting cars.
Vehicles registered abroad are also concerned. In order to allow their automatic camera control, pre-registration is mandatory (except for vehicles registered in the Netherlands).
LEZ registration is free. It must be done via an electronic form on the environnement.brussels website.
If a vehicle enters the low emission zone of the Brussels Region, and it has not been registered beforehand, a fine of € 150 may be levied!
N.B .: There are also low emission zones in some cities in the Flemish Region (including Antwerp and Ghent) for which an additional registration (also free) is required!
